Today is Paul Verhoeven’s 85th birthday and with it comes some very exciting news.
A few weeks ago, I had heard that Verhoeven was preparing a new film, set to shoot this fall. Producer Saïd Ben Saïd has just confirmed the news, but, by the looks of it, it’s not going to be the recently-announced DC-set “Young Sinner.” It’ll actually be a film set in France, his third in a row after “Elle” and “Benedetta.”
Unless, Verhoeven has decided to switch the location of “Young Sinner” from Washington to Paris, this could be a whole other different project. Let the guessing games begin.
Obviously, due to the actors strike, “Young Sinner” would not be able to film with American actors, so maybe Verhoeven has moved on to shoot his much-rumored “Bel Ami” adaptation. One only hopes.
Verhoeven released his excellent “Benedetta” in 2021, but the 85-year-old director isn’t slowing down. His impressive filmography, which includes “RoboCop,” “Total Recall,” “Starship Troopers” “Basic Instinct” and “Elle,” will be adding another film very soon.
Verhoeven mentioned back in March that progress on his next project was stopped due to the pandemic and that he was “ready to make movies again.” He is working on several projects at the moment, so, health permitted, this’ll be a busy next few years for him.
