Steven Spielberg To Make His Case Against Netflix Movies Qualifying For Oscars At Next Academy Board Meeting

March 1, 2019 Jordan Ruimy
steven-spielberg-slice2.jpg

Netflix and the idea of what is a “real movie” has been at the forefront of the cinematic conversation from Cannes to this past year’s Oscars. The answer is not that complicated. Of course a Netflix original should be deemed a movie, it’s an unequivocal non-dilemma. The reason why this question is even being asked to begin with is because a monetary loss is involved for Hollywood bigwigs, they are too scared Netflix will take over and empty their bank accounts.

Steven Spielberg: “A Vote For ‘Green Book’ Was a Vote For Cinema Itself."

February 26, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

I know Steven Spielberg has been very adamant with his campaign to de-legitimize Netflix and to preserve the theatrical experience, but I found this little nugget, courtesy of Anne Thompson’s reporting, which gave me a little chuckle, because, apparently, Spielberg was quoted as saying that “a vote for ‘Green Book’ was a vote for cinema itself.”

I don’t know how many more times I have to mention this, but despite the hate from critics, “Green Book” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” are at the top of audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb (among the Best Picture nominees).

Final Oscar Predictions: “Green Book” Will Win Best Picture.

February 24, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

Cue in the outrage police. Peter Farrelly’s “Green Book” might set back the Oscars by a few years when and if it wins Best Picture at the 91st Academy Awards tonight. All the “progress” that happened with “Moonlight",” “12 Years A Slave,” and “Shape of Water” winning might be destroyed, according to wokers, of course. No diss intended to Farrelly’s lovely film, but the amount of hate it has garnered throughout awards season is enough to send Twitter into outrage-overdrive when Peter “I flashed Cameron Diaz" Farrelly and Nick “Muslims celebrated on 9/11” Vallelonga get on-stage to accept their award at around midnight EST (Yes, that’s when the Oscars will likely finish broadcast).

Spielberg says “Green Book" is his favorite buddy movie since “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid."

February 19, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

I get asked practically every day “what movie should I watch?” by normal moviegoers, It’s become such a mundane question, given that you have to figure out what kind of movie tastes the person asking you has; Do they like drama? arthouse? Token Hollywood-ist conventionality? It’s very hard to just blurt out “Roma!” to every single person that asks me the question because, truth be told, “Roma” is not as easily accessible a movie as say “Green Book.” However, I’ve been just saying “Green Book” to everyone ever since November. It’s such an easy choice to make. A sure-fire crowd-pleaser that has an A+ CinemaScore and an impressive 8.3 rating on IMDB. You’d be hard pressed to find a Joe or Jane popcorn moviegoer that didn’t like Peter Farrelly’s oscar-nominated film. I sure as hell haven’t. Everybody I’ve recommended it to came back to me raving about it.

The Upcoming 91st Academy Awards Could Very Well Be a S****Show For the Ages

February 15, 2019 Jordan Ruimy
The-Embarrassing-Mistake-At-The-2017-Oscars-Well-Never-Forget.jpg

We all know the months that have led up to the upcoming 91st Oscars telecast have had the kind of veracity that can only be described as nothing but a shitshow. Forget about the incredulous backlash towards films such as “Green Book” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” for a sec, I’m talking more about the three major faux-pas that the Academy did, starting from August of 2018 until this past week. (a) the Best Achievement in Popular Film Oscar idea, (b) the Kevin Hart fiasco, and (c) handing out Cinematography and Editing during commercial breaks.

Oscars: “Green Book" or “Roma" for Best Picture?

Peter Farrelly’s Green Book Wins PGA; Back to Being Best Picture Front-runner.

January 21, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

Peter Farrelly's "Green Book" has won the Producers Guild of America award, all but sealing its fate as the Best Picture frontrunner for the upcoming 91st Academy Awards. Does that mean it's going to win the whole shebang? Of course not. But it does give us some kind of idea as to who should be favored come Oscar night, especially since this has been such an unpredictable awards season. At some point, during these last few months, more than 5 films have been touted as the frontrunner for the prize. I'm not kidding, "A Star is Born," "Black Panther," "Roma" and "BlackKklansman" have all had their turns. However, if you're an Oscar pundit, the PGA is the most legitimate precursor to adhere to, if you follow the odds of course.

Is A Rival Studio Behind the “Green Book” Smear Campaign?

January 10, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

First thing's first, whatever backlash "Green Book" has gotten must be owned up by the culprits at hand; Viggo Mortensen, Peter Farrely,  Nick Vallelonga and company all have to, if they haven’t already, admit to their past mistakes. This isn’t a think-piece where I will make the case for their innocence; No, whatever sins that may have been dug up from their pasts need to be owned up to by the accused. However…there comes a point in time when someone needs to look at the events that have transpired against this little-film-that-could and wonder, gee, are Harvey Weinstein’s smear campaigning tactics being used again in 2018 but, only this time,  by other players that have learned from the Weinstein 101 book of Oscar-playing? I think they have, brilliantly might I add.

‘Green Book’ Director Peter Farrelly Sorry for Flashing Penis in the Past: ‘I Was an Idiot’

January 10, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

“True. I was an idiot,” director Peter Farrelly said in a statement. “I did this decades ago and I thought I was being funny and the truth is I’m embarrassed and it makes me cringe now. I’m deeply sorry."

The Cut's Anna Silman, knowing full well that Oscar momentum was now with "Green Book," had posted a hit piece about Farrelly today.

With “Green Book” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” winning, the Golden Globes sent a message to the moral crusaders on Sunday Night

January 9, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

You could hear the uproar that was to come. Even if you weren't logged into a social media platform, you just knew that what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to do yesterday was give a big middle finger to the outrage machine being generated online on a daily basis. What the HFPA's final decision on Sunday felt like was a towering statement that made you want to holler the kitschy Twisted Sister song: "We're not going to take it anymore."

“Green Book” Actor Viggo Mortensen Says Don Shirley’s Family’s Criticisms “Unjustified”

January 5, 2019 Jordan Ruimy
Green-Book-mahershala-Ali-Viggo-Mortensen-1200x520.jpg

Covering the dark cloud of controversy that's been looming over Peter Farrelly’s “Green Book” has not been fun for me. This is a film that, in all likelihood, will be nominated for Best Picture, and all this despite Viggo Mortensen uttering the N-word last month at a Q&A, and despite accusations implying that it goes against the current grain of progressive thought, with the term "white savior" having been uttered more than a few times by film journalists and despite Dr. Don Shirley's family coming out  most recently and saying the film is a "symphony of lies."
