More testing intel concerning James Gunn’s “Superman.” The InSneider is reporting on the latest cut screened at Warner Bros. It seems to be an improvement on the last one.
David Corenswet’s performance is said to be stellar. Gunn balances the humor and the drama very much in the same way he did on “The Suicide Squad.” There are genuinely funny moments, but also very serious ones.
What stood out is that the latest cut runs 140 minutes. This runtime might get trimmed over the next few months, since the film only releases in July, but there are also reshoots set up next month in Ohio.
As far as his filmography goes; “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” was Gunn's longest movie at 150 minutes, while his DCEU debut, “The Suicide Squad,” was 132 minutes. He tends to stretch past the 2-hour mark on every one of his films.
Quite honestly, depending on who you ask, test reactions have been all over the place for “Superman”, from “it’s terrible” to “it’s great.” Not much in between. For every report that warns of trouble, you quickly get a positive take the following day. Warner Bros and Gunn are obviously trying to weather any bad PR the film might get out of these leaks.
Do you blame them? Some rumors are hinting that “Superman” might have cost over $300M. It’s ride or die for David Zaslav when it comes to this movie. They absolutely cannot afford to release a stinker, otherwise heads will roll over at Warners and DCU Studios.
The film, which wrapped production in July 2024, is set to star Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Bronahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; the rest of the cast includes Skyler Gisondo, Anthony Carrigan and Isabela Merced.
“Superman” will be released worldwide July 11, 2025 via Warner Bros and DC Studios.
