UPDATE: Farhadi rumor is false.
EARLIER: I'm late to this rumor, mostly because after weeks of hearing about it, I still have no way to corroborate it. Regardless, it's not dying down so I might as well briefly tackle it in these pages.
Apparently, and much like what Mohammad Rasoulof did last year with “Seed of the Sacred Fig,” Iranian filmmakers Jafar Panahi and Asghar Farhadi might have secretly shot new films and both have been submitted for this year’s edition of Cannes. Obviously, we have zero plot details about these projects.
We’ll see if it pans out, but this would mean more (delightful) headaches for Cannes boss Thierry Fremaux who already has a fruitful batch of new films, from top filmmakers, to choose from this year. The entire Cannes lineup gets announced in mid-April.
I've heard many more rumors about this year’s lineup, but I’ll keep them for my next spitball. In the meantime, SpoilerMovie just published their annual predictions — which include Panahi & Farhadi — and, save for a few curious inclusions, its a pretty good rundown of what we know so far.
