I’m sorry, but did we really need this?
Looks like Tom Hanks isn’t done battling Nazis just yet. The follow-up to Apple’s WWII action flick “Greyhound” is happening, with production set to sail in January 2026 (via Deadline).
Hanks will be slipping back into the uniform of Captain Krause, and he also wrote the screenplay! Stephen Graham (“Adolescence”) will also return in a supporting role. Director Aaron Schneider, a former DP, is back in the captain's chair, along with producer Gary Goetzman.
This time, the story is said to ditch the North Atlantic for something a bit more tropical. The sequel picks up post-Normandy, tracking Krause and his trusty crew as they steer into the Pacific Theater to help swing the war in the Allies' favor.
“Greyhound” was a significant success for Apple TV+ during the pandemic, becoming the platform's largest opening weekend release at the time. Released on July 10, 2020, and according to the streamer, the film attracted a viewership comparable to that of a major summer theatrical hit, despite its initial plan for a theatrical debut being disrupted by the pandemic.
Before COVID hit, they were supposed to release the first one on the big screen, but it got delayed, numerous times, from 2018, to 2019, to finally its July 2020 streaming date, which was almost three years after production wrapped. Will they release the sequel in theaters? No word yet on that front.
