Speaking with the Bingeworthy TV podcast, Josh Brolin gives an update on “Sicario 3".
Brolin confirms that Christopher McQuarrie is no longer involved in the third film, and that original writer Taylor Sheridan’s participation is still in question. Also, Denis Villeneuve, who directed the first film, previously indicated he would not be involved with the third one.
Earlier in the year, we had reported that the original cast — Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin — all wanted to come back for “Sicario 3”. This would be an upgrade when compared to the underwhelming “Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado” — for which Blunt wasn’t a part of.
I’m guessing ‘Soldado’ director Stefano Sollima will not be back as he hasn’t been mentioned at all by Brolin or the producers. McQuarrie dropping out isn’t much of a surprise. He’s currently up to his neck in Tom Cruise projects, including “Mission: Impossible 8,” the “SpaceX” movie, ‘Top Gun 3’ and that “gnarly” R-rated thriller.
