Here are more early reactions to James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown,” a 140-minute Bob Dylan biopic, which has now screened, several times, in L.A and NYC.
Compared to the hyperbolic first reactions, I’m seeing here a lot more mixed takes on the film. It could still squeeze in there and earn a Best Picture nomination, but right now this seems to be more of an acting play for Timothee Chalamet who is a cinch to earn a Best Actor nod.
The film, which is said to clock in at 2 hours 20 minutes, taps into the folk scene of the early 60s and Dylan’s rising stardom. The rest of the cast includes Edward Norton (Pete Seeger), Elle Fanning (Suze Rotolo), Monica Barbaro (Joan Baez) and Nick Offerman (Alan Lomax) and Boyd Holbrook (Johnny Cash).
“A Complete Unknown” is set to hit theaters on December 25.
