Who wants a “Slumdog Millionaire” sequel? Absolutely nobody.
Bridge7, a production company founded by former Netflix executive Swati Shetty and former CAA agent Grant Kessman, has acquired sequel and TV rights to the 2008 Oscar-winning movie. The rights were acquired from UK based Celador which produced and financed ‘Slumdog’ in association with the UK’s Film4.
Given how misguided of an idea this is, I highly doubt that original lead Dev Patel would return for the potential sequel, which is supposed to tell “the next chapter of Jamal’s journey.” Patel is busy these days with directing and has turned into a much-sought actor.
You can also forget about Danny Boyle returning as director — he’s got better things to do than to hop onboard this misguided project. With that said, if a sequel does happen, and they should just call it “Slumcat Trillionaire,” I would imagine it’ll not be as fruitful an endeavor as Shetty and Kessman might be led to believe. Nobody asked for this.
