Given the holidays fast approaching, it’s been a fairly quiet Tuesday in Hollywood, but theaters are booming in ticket sales. Great news for exhibitors nationwide.
Yesterday, “Wicked” earned $16M, the biggest box office Monday ever for November. Its totals could be sitting at $250M by Sunday evening. The film is a behemoth and driving ticket sales via Univeral’s brilliant marketing and strong word of mouth.
Meanwhile, “Gladiator II,” which cost $250M to produce, nabbed $5M on Monday and is well on its way to hitting $100M domestically by weekend’s end. Oh, and “Moana 2” starts previews tonight, and is looking at a $120M 5-day opening.
