Now, I just feel bad for Zachary Levi whose ‘Shazam’ sequel is tanking hard at the box-office. To the point where he’s practically begging people to watch it over ‘John Wick 4.’
This video has to be seen to be believed.
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” grossed an estimated $9.70M this weekend (from 4,071 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $46.31M. It might not even reach Cocaine Bear's domestic total at this point, which is pathetic.
What happened? We’re not entirely sure. Maybe the lack of excitement for a ‘Shazam’ film combined with the superhero genre starting to dry up with audiences. That’s what I would bet.
I don’t necessarily know for sure if the comic book movie is dying, but Shazam sure as hell is. And, with the arrest of Jonathan Majors last night, things aren’t looking any better for Marvel and the MCU. There are significant cracks showing.
With a $125 budget (which is always lower than the real numbers), “Shazam 2” would need $250 million to break even, according to Showbiz411. It has so far made a pitiful $75 million worldwide.
‘John Wick 4’ made more on its opening weekend ($73 million) than Shazam 2’s overall accumulative gross. It’s gotten so bad that Levi is already shopping around for his next gig online.
