Congrats to Ari Aster, who is now Cannes-bound with “Eddington.” This will be his first time on the Croissette. He will be vying for the Palme d’Or. His first three films were “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” and “Beau is Afraid.”
A poster has just been released for “Eddington,” via A24, and a trailer will be coming in the next 24-48 hours. A first look image was also unveiled, and in it we catch just a glimpse of the lethal rivalry to come between Joaquin Phoenix’s Sheriff and Pedro Pascal’s Mayor.
“Eddington” still has no release date, but for a few months, we’ve been told that A24 was eyeing a summer release. More will come out very soon. I read the script a while back and posted this summary. The plot is set during the 2020 pandemic, and is highly political, albeit it doesn’t really take sides, but rather emphasizes the preposterous nature of the American divide.
What we do know is that the film, lensed by cinematography wizard Darius Khondji, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward and William Belleau. This is going to be a real barnburner at Cannes.
