This is a real bummer, if true.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese’s “Devil in the White City” was supposed to be their next project together, and then in 2019 it turned into a HULU limited series. Scorsese and DiCaprio were still involved as producers.
Todd Field was set to direct with Keanu Reeves cast as the main lead. Then, late last year, they both simultaneously dropped out of the project. THR is now reporting that the series is officially dead and looking for a new home.
It was originally supposed to be produced by Paramount Television, with an unknown air date on the streaming network HULU. They’ve both quit the project.
However, it does look as though Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) and Jude Law are now attached to this project with no home, and director Matt Ross is set to helm. My excitement has plummeted.
’Devil’ has been in the works now for more than a decade. As mentioned, it was originally set to be a DiCaprio/Scorsese film, but it looks as though that will likely never materialize — their next feature will likely be “The Wager.”
“Devil in the White City,” based on the book by Erik Larson, tells the story of an architect and a serial killer, both trying to leave their mark on the city, and the true events that changed their lives forever at the 1893 Chicago World Fair.
