The talented Colman Domingo (watch “Zola”) has been cast as the game show host in Edgar Wright’s “Running Man” remake, which is still in production and set for November 2025 release. The cast already included Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Emilia Jones, William H Macy, Katy O’Brian and Michael Cera (via Deadline).
Here’s what I wrote about this project on 10.04.24:
Wright has mentioned, many times, that if there ever was one movie that he’d love to remake then it would be 1987’s “The Running Man,” which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. According to The Wrap’s sources, with knowledge of the project, Wright’s movie “is a more faithful adaptation” of Stephen King’s novel.
Set in 2025, the story follows a man named Ben Richards while he participates in a deadly game show, called The Running Man, which sees him declared an enemy of the state and hunted by a ground of murderous hitmen
Wright is coming off the worst-reviewed film of his career: 2021’s “Last Night in Soho.” He still has a fairly large base of supporters, having helmed such films as “Baby Driver,” “The World’s End,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Scott Pilgrim vs The World” and “Shaun of the Dead.”
