Damn, this sucks. Nicky Katt, a memorable character actor, has passed away at the age of 54. The cause of death is still not known at this time.
Katt had supporting roles in a slew of memorable films, including “Dazed and Confused,” “A Time to Kill,” “Boiler Room,” “The Way of the Gun,” “SubUrbia,” “Insomnia,” “School of Rock.” He also stole the show in Steven Soderbergh’s otherwise forgettable “Full Frontal.”
However, all hail Katt’s turn as “Stacy the low-rent hitman” in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Limey.” How could he ever top that performance? Stacy was a cocky, fast-talking hitman whose arrogance was both entertaining and unnerving. It was slick, almost satirical work on the part of Katt.
He doesn't have a big role, but Katt totally nailed the vibe of a guy who's in way over his head but still trying to act like a badass. Thank the movie Gods Soderbergh would go on to use Katt two other times, both brilliant turns, in “Full Frontal,” and “Behind the Candelabra.”
If you lived through the ‘90s indie scene, and while rarely the lead in these films, you still knew who Nicky Katt was. For some audiences, they might have not known his name full well, but certainly knew his face. He sadly never got his due.
One look at his IMDb, and Katt was barely picking up acting roles after 2008; he only appeared in 3 credits — one in 2011, one in 2013 and one in 2018. Not entirely sure why he became so inactive, but he will certainly be missed by many.
