When it was announced that Christopher Nolan would be adapting “The Odyssey,” it was a given that a large ensemble cast would be needed to remain faithful to Homer’s epic poem.
And so, the announcements keep on coming as yet another actor has joined “The Odyssey,” and it probably won’t be the last addition either. John Leguizamo will star in Nolan’s next film (via The InSneider).
A underrated actor, who has been going at it for nearly four decades, Leguizamo’s most notable performances can be found in such films as “Carlito’s Way,” “Casualties of War,” “Summer of Sam,” “Romeo + Juliet,” “Moulin Rouge,” “Revenge,” and “Die Hard 2.”
Leguizamo joins an incredible cast that already included Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, and Benny Safdie.
Nolan’s $250M+ movie is being described as a “mythic action epic.” The story is set after the Trojan War, following the journey of King Odysseus and his trek back home to Ithaca, where his wife and grown son are in danger. Along the way, Odysseus stumbles upon numerous dangerous figures, including Cyclops and witch goddesses.
Production on “The Odyssey” is set to begin in late February, with Universal slated to release the film in theaters, including IMAX screens, on July 17, 2026.
