Anthony Mackie is taking aim at the Academy for not paying attention to his work as an actor.
Mackie, who is the latest thespian to play Captain America, tells Esquire that his recent Marvel promotion feels like its own personal Oscar, and that’s despite having been “overlooked so many times” by the Academy.
“It’s always apropos for me when awards season comes up,” Mackie said, “Because I know I’ve done at least four performances that could have been nominated — if not for a Golden Globe, then an Oscar or an Emmy. Captain America is my Oscar, because I’ve been overlooked so many times in my career.”
Let’s play a fun game. Here’s Mackie’s filmography. Try to figure out which four performances he’s talking about that deserved Oscar love. I can’t find any.
