As I reported, exclusively, in December 2023, Ethan Coen is directing another film after “Drive-Away Dolls,” this one is titled “Honey Don’t” which is the second one of a planned Lesbian B-movie trilogy that he and his partner/wife, Tricia Cooke, are co-writing and co-directing.
“Honey Don’t” stars Aubrey Plaza, Margaret Qualley and Chris Evans. Qualley plays a private investigator looking into a Bakersfield, California based cult, led by a charismatic founder (Evans). The actress tells IndieWire that the film will be released in May via Focus Features.
“Drive Away Dolls,” for all the middling reviews it’s gotten, was a kooky good time — lots of over-the-top sex, violence and humor. It all felt like an entertaining tribute to B-movies, zany road trips, with a very retro vibe and absurdly quick paces (84 minutes).
There were Coen-esque flairs in ‘Dolls’, but it was goofier and more straight-shooting than most of Joel and Ethan’s comedies. Hopefully, after “Honey Don’t”, Ethan can go back to teaming up with his brother Joel on their next project which he’s described as a “very bloody horror film.” Although, I’m hearing Joel will be shooting his next solo film later in the year.
