Some disappointing news if you’re looking forward to “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” It sounds like it’s still a long ways away from being completed.
Jharrel Jerome — who voices Miles Morales — has provided another frustrating update on the long-gestating animated blockbuster.
Speaking with Decider, Jerome revealed that he has yet to begin any work on the third installment in the Spider-Verse film series, with no word regarding when production would start. "No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things," he said.
While it’s generally agreed that voice recording comes before animation in creating animated films, there have been some exceptions. However, during the making the first two Spider-Verse films, recording had been done before the animation to enhance vital timing and emotional cues. So, yes, Jerome’s comments are not a good sign.
‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ was recently confirmed to not be coming out in 2025. This wasn’t very surprising given a recent report that claimed Sony had scrapped most of ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ for “creative reasons,” and, given the detailed animation that required, the movie was now unlikely to release before 2027.
A few months later, A report insinuated that Sony had actually demanded for the entire ‘Beyond’ script to be rewritten. This meant that reels of animated footage had to be thrown out. The studio was also said to be undecided on the film's ending.
The visionary and groundbreaking “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” was a commercial and critical success back in the summer of 2023. The sequel ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ initially had a release date of March 2024.
