“Deadpool & Wolverine” is one of the biggest films of the year, having already earned over $1.3B worldwide, but Disney isn’t fully satisfied with the receipts. They now want Oscars.
According to Variety, Disney has submitted “Deadpool & Wolverine” for Oscar consideration and are pushing hard for Hugh Jackman to contend in the Best Supporting Actor category. Delusional? Sure. A waste of money? You bet. It’s like applying to M.I.T. with a 0.5 GPA.
It’s not just the Oscars. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is aiming for Golden Globes attention, where it would compete in the comedy categories. Ryan Reynolds has been submitted for Best Actor (comedy or musical), while Jackman is again in the Supporting Actor category.
Only one MCU performance has ever gotten nominated for an acting Oscar, and that was Angela Bassett in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” If anything, Jackman stands a better chance at a Globes nomination, especially if Disney plays its cards right and pays Penske a handsome sum of money.
