It’s become far too east to dunk on Rupert Sanders’' “The Crow” remake, which, on a $50M budget, and drowned by negative reviews, opened this past weekend with a paltry $4M.
Yet, one person who has had the most gleeful response to the bombing of Sanders’ film is original ‘Crow’ filmmaker Alex Proyas who has been trashing the film left and right on social media, and seemingly loving every second of it.
One look at Proyas’ Facebook, and his celebration of the failure of “The Crow” remake seems a tad too over the top. He posted a message that stated, “Wow. The reviews are BRUTAL.” This was then be followed up with, “Wow. Box office is a bloodbath.”
He also wrote, “I thought the remake was a cynical cash-grab. Not much cash to grab it seems.” He’s also been sharing harshly negative reviews, including one from YouTuber Critical Drinker which named “The Crow” remake as “the worst movie of the year.”
“Maybe they can lend the [film’s production files] to film schools for classes on how NOT to make a movie?” he added. “The theatres sure won’t need ’em after next weekend.”
A few days later, after probably realizing how relentless he’s been towards the film, and no doubt spurred on by his publicist’s advice, Proyas announced that he was taking a break from FB for the time being.
Yes, maybe it’s time to take a break, Alex. After all, your last film was “Gods of Egypt.”
