The trades were predicting a $6M-$8M weekend for “The Crow.” It looks like it’s going to be a lot worse for Rupert Sanders’ badly reviewed reboot.
“The Crow” grossed $1.2M on Friday and is set to have a $4M 3-day weekend by Sunday evening. This is not good. The film, which has been in development hell for close to 15 years, cost $50M to produce.
The reboot’s opening weekend will be less than half the original. Alex Proyas’ 1994 cult classic, starring Brandon Lee, opened with $11.8M on its opening weekend with a production budget of $23M.
This is more bad news for Lionsgate who are just coming off their “Borderlands” disaster, not to mention the “Megalopolis,” quote fabrication controversy. This year is turning into an utter nightmare for them.
