Irish actors Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley have started shooting Chloe Zhao’s “Hamnet” in Wales. The film is being produced by Spielberg’s Amblin Pictures. We now have our first look set photos.
Set against the backdrop of Shakespeare's most famous play, Hamlet, and during the Black Plague during 1580s England, “Hamnet” imagines the story of Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare, as she grapples with the loss of their only son.
Zhao is coming off her clunker MCU film, “Eternals.” She was originally showered with praise for her 2020 Oscar winning “Nomadland” and 2018’s “The Rider.” It’ll be interesting to see if she can make a good movie out of “Hamnet,” which was originally supposed to be directed by Sam Mendes.
