By the looks of it, Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” is continuing to get snipped down in the editing room as it awaits its Venice Film Festival premiere.
I originally reported that it was 3 hours. When it was announced, “Queer” had a runtime of 175 minutes, then Venice updated it to 152 minutes and now it’s 135 minutes. Maybe Guadagnino is trying to make it palatable for a wider audience.
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with this one. “Queer” still has no distributor and, as far as I know, won’t be going to Telluride or Toronto. A NYFF berth is still a possibility. Daniel Craig is rumored to give a great performance in the film which is based on William S. Burroughs’ autobiographical novel of the same name.
“Queer” wrapped production last July. The film stars Craig, Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Omar Appolo, Henrique Zaga, Andres Duprat, Ariel Shulman, Drew Droege, Colin Bates, and filmmakers Lisandro Alonso, David Lowery, and Michael Borremans.
