After having had its 2025 release delayed to October 2, 2026, James Gunn is confirming that Matt Reeves is still working on the script for “The Batman: Part II,” and that it will be submitted “when Matt thinks it’s ready.”
Gunn also debunked a rumor that the trilogy was canceled.
Reeves is taking his time with this one, and for good reason. There’s no rush, next year is especially going to be an important one for Gunn’s DCU with “Superman: Legacy” set for summer release. There’s also another DCU Batman movie rumored to shoot in late 2025, “The Brave and the Bold.”
Last I heard about Reeves’ “The Batman” sequel, it was supposed to start production around February or March of 2025 in the U.K. Barry Keoghan’s The Joker is supposed to have a more prominent role in this one.
Also expected to return for the sequel are Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell. There have also been rumors of Dick Grayson, aka Robin, joining in this time around. Nothing’s really been confirmed. However, DP Greig Fraser has confirmed his presence for the sequel
“The Batman,” released two years ago, is actually the last time we saw Robert Pattinson on screen, he hasn’t starred in anything else since then. This year he was supposed to be seen in Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17,” but we all know about the delays with that one. Pattinson is also supposed to star in Parker Finn’s recently announced remake of “Possession,” but we’re not entirely sure when that one is supposed to start shooting.
“The Batman” was hailed as an ambitious post-Affleck return to form for the Caped Crusader. It was a near 3-hour movie that grossed $369.3 million in the United States, and $401.6 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $770.9 million. Reviews were also fairly strong.
