Amidst yesterday’s confirmation that what was supposed to be David Lynch’s next project, “Unrecorded Night,” had been scrapped, at the last minute, by Netflix, I almost forgot to mention another interesting detail in Sabrina Sutherland’s AMA.
Sutherland, Lynch’s longtime producing partner, also stated that Lynch hasn’t scratched off the potential for another season of ‘Twin Peaks’. Sutherland was surprisingly candid when asked about such, saying: “I know that David has more ideas for another season, but I don’t know about Mark [Frost].”
I doubt Showtime would want to partner up again with Lynch. The new leadership at that network doesn’t seem interested. David Nevins (the boss who greenlit the last ‘Twin Peaks’) left Showtime. A couple of years ago, when asked if Showtime would be interested in another season, an exec apparently laughed and said, “probably not.”
Lynch could potentially go the crowdfunding route. There are definitely plenty of fans out there who would be willing to help out. Regardless, I don’t believe we need another season of ‘Twin Peaks,’ the last one ended perfectly. Lynch should instead find a way to get his other original projects going, including, and especially, “Unrecorded Night.”
