Man, they’re really speeding up Jesse Armstrong’s upcoming HBO movie.
The film — titled “Mountainhead” — started production in March, and it’s now been announced that it will premiere on May 31 at 8 p.m. “Mountainhead,” which is still shooting, will probably only have 90 or so days of post-production to hit that premiere date.
This is Armstrong’s first project since the series finale of “Succession” in 2023 The film marks Armstrong’s feature debut. He serves as writer and director, Per the official logline, “Mountainhead” is set “against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis” and follows a group of billionaire friends.
The cast is led by Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Ramy Youssef, and Cory Michael Smith. HBO has also released three first look photos from “Mountainhead”.
Armstrong’s previous screen credits include writing political satires such as “Four Lions,” and “In The Loop,” the latter, which he co-wrote with “Veep” creator Armando Iannucci, landed him a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination.
Armstrong’s “Succession,” which aired for four seasons on HBO, and finished its run in 2023, accumulated 75 Emmy nominations and 19 wins. It’s the most acclaimed TV series of the last 10 years, and was seen by many as the end of the “golden age” era of television which was heralded by the likes of “The Sopranos,” “Breaking Bad,” “The Wire” and “Mad Men.”
