Here’s an upcoming Pixar original — a rarity — it’s called “Elio,” and set for theatrical release on June 13, 2025. This afternoon, a trailer was unveiled by Disney/Pixar.
The film follows a young boy, Elio, who gets transported to an alien world where everyone assumes he is the leader of Earth. “Elio” is directed by Adrian Molina, who previously wrote and co-helmed “Coco.”
There are currently two originals in the works at pixar, “Elio” and “Hoppers.” Meanwhile, there are at least five sequels in development, including “Toy Story 5,” “The Incredibles 3,” “Finding Nemo 3” and “Monsters Inc. 2.”
Pixar is coming off the immense success of “Inside Out 2” which has, so far, grossed $1.5B worldwide. Five years ago, Pixar’s CEO was implying that they would no longer be concentrating on sequels, but that turned out to be a lie. That’s why something like “Elio” could be a breath of fresh air when it gets released next summer.
