Chris Sanders’ “The Wild Robot” is at $107M globally, and it’s now been confirmed that this rare successful original will now be getting a sequel via DreamWorks Animation.
Right now, if there’s any film that can beat “Inside Out 2” in the animated Oscar race then it’s ‘Wild Robot.’ Sanders’ film is the best reviewed animated film of the year — 85 on Metacritic and 98% Rotten Tomatoes. As with any successful original in Hollywood, a sequel must absolutely be greenlit.
“The Wild Robot” tells the story of an intelligent robot called Roz, stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island's animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose.
The voice cast includes Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, Bill Nighy, Kit Connor, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames. “The Wild Robot” is written and directed by Sanders, best known for films such as “Lilo & Stitch,” “The Croods,” and “How to Train Your Dragon.”
