In a surprising turn of events, Warner Bros. has set up the PVOD and digital release of Tim Burton‘s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” for October 8 — only 33 days after its theatrical release.
Over the weekend, Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel was finally dethroned from the #1 spot, after three weeks at the top, as DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” opened with $35M. At the same time, the film became Burton’s second highest grossing movie at the domestic box office with a running total of $251M.
“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” still has plenty of legs, but will have its momentum cut short in seven days’ time with this early PVOD release. I’m sure theatrical exhibitors can’t be too happy about this news.
