Kenneth Branagh’s latest Hercules Poirot instalment, “A Haunting in Venice,” will most likely finish #1 at the box office this weekend, but only with an estimated $15 million. The film’s budget is said to be around $60 million.
Last weekend’s champ, “The Nun” might be dethroned, unless it holds steady and doesn’t have a second week drop of over 50%. “A Haunting in Venice” is also tracking to earn an additional $25 million at the international box-office.
Branagh, returning as Detective Hercule Poirot, leads the cast of ‘Venice’ which also includes Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey and Michelle Yeoh. Sadly, due to the strike, there were no promotional efforts done by these actors. It could have probably opened much higher.
These numbers for “A Haunting in Venice” are stronger than Branagh’s prior Poirot adaptation “Death on the Nile,” which opened to a weak $12.8 million in 2022. However, the first instalment, “Murder on the Orient Express,” opened to an impressive $28.6 million and became a hit with $100 million at the domestic box office and $350 million globally.
