Guillermo del Toro retweeted our Paul Schrader/Wes Anderson article and gave his own assessment of “Asteroid City.” He’s a fan.
Unique signature – What started as an Ashby-esque rhythm and a Demy-esque image design mix, has evolved,” del Toro tweeted. “Now we have a beautiful, painful, and paradoxical exercise in controlled image and neurotic passion. A voice essential to modern cinema.
Meanwhile, “Asteroid City” is now in French theaters. It has a middling 3.2 score on AlloCine, but Cahiers du Cinema has given it 5 stars:
“Asteroid City is certainly one of the most moving films by its auteur. And it sticks to Anderson’s principle of verticality, overwhelmingly, but it also seems to embrace all its characters [...] Always muted and contained, this deaf emotion unfolds in strict movement from top to bottom”
