UPDATED: The teaser is out and it looks better than expected. It sure plays like a Sofia Coppola movie. A girl’s coming of age story. That indie rock soundtrack. It can’t be all that bad.
EARLIER: Are you Elvis’ed out yet?
Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” is rumoured to premiere at Venice, unless it’s bad. We also now have an official poster and it definitely has some vibes going for it — see below.
Coppola described “Priscilla” as “Marie Antoinette in Graceland.” Bring it. Some on-set photos leaked in the Spring, they showed Elvis and Priscilla Presley, husband and wife, strolling outdoors.
The film is based on the memoir “Elvis and Me” by Priscilla Presley. It stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi as Priscilla and Elvis.
Born Priscilla Ann Wagner in 1945, she was 14 when she met 24-year-old Elvis during his military service in Germany. They ended up getting married in 1967, and had one daughter, the late Lisa Marie Presley.
I like Coppola, but she peaked with 2003’s “Lost in Translation” and was never really able to top that film. Along the way, she’s made some interesting films such as “Marie Antoinette,” “Somewhere” and “The Bling Ring.”
A24 will distribute “Priscilla”. Coppola is reteaming with her longtime collaborators, including Cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, and Editor Sarah Flack.
There is no current release date for the film.
