Now that Joseph Kosinski proved his worth as the director of “Top Gun: Maverick”, which also earned him a DGA nomination, he’s decided to keep the ambitions high for his next project.
Kosinski is set to shoot “Formula One” starring Brad Pitt as a Formula One driver that comes out of retirement to race again. Lewis Hamilton, a beloved driver of the sport, is involved as a producer and will likely play himself.
Apple decided to tag along for the ride and you can bet it’ll be getting a full-fledged theatrical release next year. It’s set to start shooting in the coming weeks.
The ambitions Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have for this film are quite wild. It turns out they’re creating an 11th team and filming on track and on event the entire Formula One calendar.
They’ve developed the smallest moveable 6k camera ever designed to take the viewer into the cockpit. Brad Pitt will actually be driving an F1 car, designed by Mercedes, for this film.
Hamilton is in daily communication and is advising on storyline to ensure the accuracy of the story being told. Kosinski says his biggest inspiration will be John Frankenheimer’s “Grand Prix.”
Oh, And Tom Cruise has already offered to do some extra driving if they need him.
Before “Top Gun: Maverick,” Kosinski was mostly known for directing the Tom Cruise starring sci-fi film “Oblivion,” “Tron: Legacy” and “Only the Brave.” He’s now become one of the most sought-after blockbuster filmmakers in the industry.
