A teaser for Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” will be released tomorrow. To celebrate the occasion, Searchlight has released a new image from the film.
“Poor Things” was spitballed for a Cannes premiere, then it didn’t show up when the lineup was revealed. What happened? Searchlight dated the film for a September 8th release date. That means probably no TIFF, but Venice is still very much a possibility.
It doesn’t sound like Searchlight has much Oscar hopes with this one. They’re releasing it very early in the season. What gives? Contenders are usually released in October and November. Maybe this one just isn’t very accessible to the Academy.
The film, starring Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, and inspired by story of “Frankenstein,” wrapped production in late fall of 2021. In the image below, that window is the shape of a penis.
