We have more details about Josh and Benny Safdies upcoming new film.
The goal is to start production in July and for shooting to wrap around September. We’re not sure if those dates will be met as of now, but I did gather up some plot details about the film:
Set in the world of high-end sports card collecting in the 1990s, a retired Baseball pitcher (Affleck) attempts a comeback as a sports memorabilia agent (Sandler) attempts to capitalize on his success. Megan Thee Stallion is said to play Affleck’s girlfriend.
Steve Harvey has also been added to the cast. Yes, the same Steve Harvey with that wild mustache who crowned the wrong Miss Universe in 2015. This is a really eccentric cast and I love to see it.
Ever since their double whammy of “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems,” the Safdie Brothers have become one of the most interesting filmmakers working today.
Back in October, I had some intel that the duo were shooting their next film with Adam Sandler this winter. Then, in an interview with Vanity Fair, Sandler confirmed that this mysterious new Safdie film would be shooting in the “late winter”.
The production was then bumped to June and now I’m hearing a July date is the goal. The locations for the shoot are New York City and Atlantic City.
Sandler mentioned to THR a few months back that the script, which seems to be evolving on a daily basis, is currently 340 pages.
