The Safdie Brothers’ next film, starring Adam Sandler and Gael García Bernal, keeps bumping its production date. Now I’m hearing it’ll be shooting in August.
Back in October, I had some intel that the duo were shooting their next film with Adam Sandler this winter. Then, in an interview with Vanity Fair, Sandler confirmed that this mysterious new Safdie film would be shooting in “late winter”.
Production was then bumped to April, then June and July. Now it’s August. Who wants to be it’ll be September soon? The locations for the shoot are New York City and Atlantic City, Netflix are backing the project.
Set in the world of high-end sports card collecting in the 1990s, a retired Baseball pitcher (Affleck) attempts a comeback as a sports memorabilia agent (Sandler) attempts to capitalize on his success. Megan Thee Stallion is said to play Affleck’s girlfriend.
Steve Harvey was also added to the cast. Yes, the same Steve Harvey with that wild mustache who crowned the wrong Miss Universe in 2015. This is a really eccentric cast and I love to see it.
Sandler mentioned to THR a few months back that the script, which seems to be evolving on a daily basis, is currently 340 pages.
I should note that the Safdies have “split up”. They both directed “Heaven Knows What,” “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems,” but, although they will still be sharing screenplay credits, only Josh is directing the Sandler/Netflix film.
