The mostly-reliable Daniel Richtman is reporting that Adam Driver is in final negotiations to play Reed Richards in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” reboot. Don’t do it, Adam.
Driver probably wants a paycheck out of this one, and to, obviously, make a good movie in the process. Duh. Director Matt Shakman is attached to this F4 relaunch.
I like Driver a lot, I think he’s a strong actor, but it’s surprising to think he would have any interest in playing such a role. He’s mostly chosen his projects based on who the director is — save for his last movie, which was the wonky dinosaur actioneer “65.” Maybe he’s entered a more commercial phase in his career.
Over the past decade, Driver has worked with Martin Scorsese, Joel Coen, Noah Baumbach, Jim Jarmusch, Clint Eastwood, Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, Steven Soderbergh, Michael Mann, Leos Carax, Francis Ford Coppola Ridley Scott and Terry Gilliam.
Jesus. He sure picks ‘em right. How did this happen? Well, for starters, Driver is no slouch to acting, he graduated from Julliard, one of the most prestigious acting schools in the world.
It also wasn’t Lena Dunham who discovered Driver when she cast him in his breakthrough role as her character’s love interest in “Girls”, but, rather, Clint Eastwood who gave Driver his big movie break with a minor role in “J. Edgar.”
Recently, Driver finished shooting Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” and Michael Mann’s “Ferrari.”
