The second in Ethan Coen’s planned trilogy of B-movies will start production in March 2024, it’s called “Honey Don’t.” The plot is currently being kept under wraps.
Back in June, Coen had confirmed that his upcoming “Drive-Away Dolls” would be part of a peculiarly titled trilogy, co-written with partner Tricia Cooke:
Over the past 20 years, we [Ethan and Cooke] have been writing this lesbian B movie trilogy. Not really a trilogy, but the idea was to write three queer B-movies that I always thought would just kind of sit in the drawer and our kids would look at one day when they were old and get some laughs. And now we’ve made one of them
“And we have another one written. The problem with writing two is then you’re obliged to do a third because nobody does two. You gotta do a trilogy. I don’t even know the word for two corresponding to a trilogy,” Coen added.
The Coen Brothers, Joel and Ethan, are still planning to reunite for a new film, but that clearly won’t be happening before “Honey Don’t.”
Back in 2021, Joel released “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” a solo work. When the project was announced, Ethan’s absence was puzzling. The Coens have always worked together. In fact, before ‘Macbeth,’ they hadn’t missed a collaboration together since their 1984 debut “Blood Simple.”
As mentioned, Ethan is about to release “Drive-Away Dolls,” on February 23, 2024— a Lesbian road movie that was supposed to premiere at this year’s fall fests before being delayed to next year due to the strikes.
The Coens haven’t collaborated on anything since 2018’s “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.” They are one of the great living American filmmakers.
