As promised, Alex Garland's upcoming "Civil War" will have its trailer unveiled this month, it’s actually coming out next week.
The promo has also, finally, started on the film, a poster was unveiled this morning — it features snipers positioned on top of the Statue of Liberty. The film is said to be about a U.S. on the brink of civil war.
“Civil War” was given an MPA rating in June —Rated R for strong violent content, bloody/disturbing images, and language throughout. This meant that the film was ready.
However, in August I revealed that the film would not be released this year and that A24 instead opted for an early 2024 launch. It thus skipped all of this year’s fall festivals. It also didn’t appear inside yesterday’s Sundance 2024 lineup. A world premiere at SXSW is not out of the question.
We don’t know much about “Civil War.” It test-screened a few times this year (in February and April). Reactions were mixed, with some calling it entertaining but fairly conventional.
The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno and Jonica T. Gibbs. Although we have no official plot details, I’ve been told that the film is about Journalists trying to break into the White House to interview the President as a civil war is breaking out.
Garland’s last film was the very divisive “Men,” before that he directed the well-reviewed “Ex-Machina” and “Annihilation.” His unofficial directorial debut was “Dredd,” for which he was not credited.
