Here’s a trailer for “The Kitchen,” via Netflix. It looks like another film in the same vein as “La Haine” and “Les Miserables.” I can’t say the trailer has me that excited to screen it.
Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya’s “The Kitchen” had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on October 15, 2023. The reviews out of that fest resulted in decent reviews — 66 on Metacritic and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.
This is Kaluuya’s directorial debut, he’s one of the better younger actors working today in Hollywood. As seen in the trailer, “The Kitchen” is a dystopian sci-fi film about a relatively near future London — the 1% reigns and the have nots suffer. The poor have all been shipped out to a part of the city called The Kitchen.
The film stars Kane Robinson, Jedaiah Bannerman, Hope Ikpoku Jr, Ian Wright, BackRoad Gee, Cristale, Teija Kabs, and Demmy Ladipo. “The Kitchen” debuts on Netflix on January 19.
