In July I had reported that Denis Villeneuve’s latest cut of “Dune: Chapter Two” was 3 hours 15 minutes. In October, I updated you by saying that he had trimmed around 20 minutes of the film to 2 hours 50-55m. We now have an official runtime.
“Dune: Chapter Two” will officially run at 2 hours 46 minutes, making it the longest film of Villeneuve’s career. This makes sense, I don’t think Warner Bros would have ever let him get away with anything over 3 hours.
Maybe a director’s cut can one day be released for hardcore fans of this franchise. In the meantime, anticipation is sky high for “Dune 2’ which is being released in theatres on March 15, 2024.
Last week, Villeneuve mentioned that he believed ‘Chapter Two’ to be “much better” than the first film. He added that he was “much more happy” with this second chapter than he was with the first film.
