Doug Liman is set to direct “The Saint,” a reimagining of the classic novel series (which was turned into a film in the ‘90s starring Val Kilmer).
Liman’s ‘Saint’ reboot will star Regé-Jean Page as Simon Templar, aka The Saint, a master thief hired to rob from the mega rich. Shooting is supposed to begin on the film early next year.
Liman's track record is fairly good. He’s kind of like James Mangold in that respect, a director who might not necessarily have a distinct voice, but who has continuously produced good movies in his 20+ year career. No small feat. His filmography includes “Swingers”, “Go”, “The Bourne Identity”, “Edge of Tomorrow” and “American Made.”
In the meantime, Liman’s next film has already been shot and given an MPA rating. It is a remake of the classic ‘80s action film, “Roadhouse,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal. He’s also supposed to shoot that Tom Cruise movie in space, but who knows when that’ll happen.
