With yesterday’s report that Robert Pattinson is in talks to star in “Dune: Messiah,” it looks like another delay is inevitably going to occur on “The Batman: Part II.”
Back in February, Pattinson told Deadline that production on “The Batman” sequel would begin during the fourth quarter of 2025. Nexus now has sources telling them that production will most likely be delayed — yet again — to next year.
The reason for these delays seems to be Matt Reeves; he’s been working on the ‘Batman 2’ script since late 2022. Last September, Reeves told EW the script was “finished,” and that “everyone is preparing to start production [in 2025].” A few months later, James Gunn stated that the script still hadn’t been submitted . This led to the film’s release being delayed by over a year, to October 1, 2027.
By the time we get to see this one on the big screen, Pattinson might already be nearing retirement age. In fact, “The Batman 2” has been delayed so many times that the actor himself admitted the possibility of having osteoarthritis by the time it starts production.
I fucking hope [it shoots soon]. I started out as young Batman & I’m going to be fucking old Batman by the sequel
The sequel, which was announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, is supposed to have Pattinson returning as the Caped Crusader. Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Zoe Kravitz and Colin Farrell are also set to reprise their respective roles.
