Back in September, I was wondering what was going on with Eli Roth’s “Borderlands,” a video game adaptation from a screenplay he co-wrote with Craig Mazin. I had suspected during the fall, after a release date delay, that the film was in trouble, but nowhere near the drama that we learned today.
The fairly reliable Daniel Richtman is reporting on Patreon that Eli Roth was fired from “Borderlands” and that Tim Miller (“Deadpool”) was hired for reshoots after bad test screening reactions.
Reshoots for “Borderlands” happened in early Summer 2022 with Gary Ross hired as a new writer. The movie was test-screened again in November and it looks like Lionsgate just didn’t feel like Roth could save the film and pulled the plug on him.
Whats even weirder is that Cate Blanchett stars in “Borderlands”. Filming had wrapped on the film in June of 2021 and then she went straight into production for “TÁR” a few months later.
The rest of the ”Borderlands” cast includes Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis.
