Cannes 2025 Posters Pay Tribute to Claude Lelouch’s ‘A Man and a Woman’

The 78th Cannes Film Festival will be announcing some of its late additions tomorrow. As far as the competition is concerned, Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love” seems like a lock. Bi Gan’s “Resurrection” will be added next week.

With that said, the festival has finally released its official poster(s), drawing inspiration from Claude Lelouch’s 1966 stunner “A Man and a Woman,” starring Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant.

The iconic film follows the story of Anne and Jean-Louis, a widow and a widower who cautiously fall in love, each carrying the emotional weight of past heartbreaks.

Marking a first in the festival's history, two separate posters have been created to honor the film — each capturing the famous beachside embrace between the lead characters. One poster features Aimée’s Anne in focus, while the other highlights Trintignant’s Jean-Louis.

Released nearly 60 years ago, the film captivated Cannes, winning the Palme d’Or, and aging like fine wine via its raw emotion and visual poetry.

The festival noted in its announcement …

In 1965, two fragile souls portrayed by Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant crossed paths, hesitated, and ultimately danced together in front of Claude Lelouch’s burning lens.” The film won the Palme d’Or in 1966, followed by Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. Both Aimée and Lelouch also earned Oscar nominations for Best Actress and Best Director, respectively. Despite its accolades, the festival emphasized that the true legacy of the film lies in its “moment of grace, tenderness, and timeless beauty.
