I’m sure plenty of our readers caught up with the film this weekend. What did you think? Visually stunning, right? I loved the usage of High Frame Rate and it was probably the best 3D by any movie since the 2009 original. Story-wise? I wasn’t as enthralled.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” nabbbed an estimated 3-day opening of $135M. That’s the 6th best domestic December debut.
According to Deadline’s sources, the film cost around $460M before P&A. There’s no direct competition for quite some time. So, ‘The Way of Water’ will have legs at the box-office, much like the first movie. The question is how much of a drop will it have next weekend? The masses will surely flock to see it on Christmas Day. Some solid, albeit harmless, counter-programming will come in the form of Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon.”
James Cameron’s sequel also seems to be well-liked by audiences as it garnered an A CinemaScore in exit polling. Its IMDB score currently stands at 8.1 out of 10. The user rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 94%.
