This past November, THR reported that “Avatar: The Way of Water” had a price tag estimated at $350-$400 million. I had speculated that it might be the most expensive movie ever made. Nobody spoke about that in the film media.
Now, according to Deadline’s sources, the film actually cost around $460M before P&A. That’s an astounding figure. Almost half a billion dollars to make this movie. That is not even counting the onslaught of advertisement/marketing that would back such a blockbuster.
Its original price tag was said to be at around $250 million, but it seems as though the budget ballooned during COVID and, probably, with technology continuing to progress these last few years.
‘The Way of Water’ beats previous record holders “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” ($379 million) and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” ($365 million).
