The critical and commercial thud that “Hellboy” received from critics and audiences alike isn’t anything new for Milla Jovovich, she’s the queen of duds; Off the top of my head I can think of “Joan of Arc,” “Ultraviolent” and all of those “Resident Evil” movies as prime examples of past, and quite infamous, Jovovich bombs.
The actress has decided to go to Instagram to explain that everyone should be perfectly happy for her, and that “Hellboy” is a film that will endure, age like fine wine if you will, over time. Oh God.
“It’s always stressful on opening weekend and @hellboymovie is no different. You work super hard to make something fun and entertaining and have to absorb the negative reviews by movie critics, but hey! THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY,” she wrote on social media.
Jovovich added, “All my raddest films have been slammed by critics. It’s fucking hilarious. You would have thought that was the worst movie ever made if you read the reviews in like ‘98. Zoolander? Slammed. Joan of Arc? Disaster. Resident Evil? Let’s not even go there. Anyway, every one of those films is now a cult classic. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. And [‘Hellboy’] will be too.”
Neil Marshall’s “Hellboy” reboot currently holds a 14% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. Comparing it to “Dazed and Confused” and “The Fifth Element” is a little much. Somewhere out there Richard Linklater and Luc Besson are face-palming in disbelief.
Then again, what else is she supposed to do than to defend her own movie?
"Yeah, don't bother watching it!" Never going to happen.
