Russell Crowe’s new movie “Unhinged,” is set to be released in theaters on July 1st by new distributor on the block Solstice Studios. No, I’m not kidding. The film is actually set to be the first feature film to be shown exclusively in movie theaters since the shutdown of theaters began in early March. The gist of the plan is actually quite simple, any multiplex that is actually open in America, and there are already a few in Texas and Georgia, will probably screen this film because, well, there is nothing else to screen right now.

You might know Kevin James as the loveable schlub from the CBS sitcom “King of Queens,” but the actor/comedian cranks it up a notch and goes full-gonzo villain for the very first time in Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion‘s R-rated home invasion thriller “Becky.”

At one point in time, specifically from 1995 to 2010, Pixar could do absolutely no wrong, it seemed like they were releasing classic after classic, and seemed unbeatable in the animation game. What else would call a stretch which included "Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E,” “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Up!” “Monsters Inc,” and the first three “Toy Story” movies?

They are NOT walking around in swimsuits, okay? But they're REALLY smart and they can kick male ass! That’s what this trailer is telling me, but it all comes off as superficial rather than exuding any sort of believability, which what this thing desperately needs if it wants to achieve its goal of sucking us into its espionage world. Imagine the paycheck Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska must have gotten for this … but can anyone actually suspend disbelief and coherently argue that these gals have the chops to beat superimposing deep state assassins? Not a chance.

Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland isn’t a terrible casting decision. It could work. Zellweger and Garland both have what you might call "unconventional movie star looks". Garland did, however, age terribly in her ‘40s. All the mentally draining stuff she had to go through eventually took its toll .

2017’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” made a lot of money. It surpassed the $350M mark domestically, making it the 5th highest grossing film of 2017 domestic. It was just $40M shy of the billion dollar worldwide mark — these numbers make it the highest-grossing domestic movie of Dwayne Johnson's career. Oh, and it was also the first December release in twenty years to have a #1 spot in February, last achieved by a little movie called “Titanic” back in February ‘98. So, yeah, “Jumanji” was a big deal and, yet, I didn’t care an ounce for it. Go figure.

Yes, this is a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" is currently in the works and that McGregor will star as the adult version Danny Torrence. We finally have a trailer for James Gray’s “Ad Astra,” a long-delayed artsy sci-fi epic in space. I have been an advocate of Gray’s classicist style for quite some years now, or ever since I saw his excellent 2007 family saga “We Own the Night,” but, more importantly, the immaculate 2009 romance “Two Lovers.” He followed those up with “The Immigrant” and “Lost City of Z,” both critically acclaimed works. However, “Ad Astra” is a whole other monster. The just-released trailer has parallels to Nolan’s “Interstellar,” Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now” and Cuaron’s “Gravity.”

Nicolas Winding Refn seems to have cornered himself in an unwinnable dilemma after the success of 2011’s “Drive.” Before that film’s resounding critical and commercial success, Refn was mostly an unheralded cult filmmaker with a knack for extreme violence. That reputation fit him perfectly.
