Steven Yeun‘s performance in Lee Isaac Chung‘s “Minari” Is solid, but squeezing him as one of the five Best Actor nominees? Nah. It’s a stretch, but a 10.23 Clayton Davis Variety piece about how Yeun “could become the first Asian American Best Actor nominee” is setting down a narrative for the upcoming awards season. However, there’s fundamentally nothing stunning about Yeun’s performance in the film. in which he plays a struggling South Korean man-of-the-house who moves his entire family to the American heartland.

An April ’16 Tom Hanks career assessment, courtesy of Hollywood-Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells, claims that Hanks’ peak started with 1992’s “A League of Their Own” and ended with 1999’s “Toy Story,” I would disagree with that timeline. The whole article was inspired by a Hanks quote from a Tribeca Film Festival discussion with John Oliver where he claimed “I peaked in the ’90s.”

Of course, we all knew that “Bohemian Rhapsody” would just kick-start a whirlwind of Hollywood rock biopics.
Tom Hanks is in negotiations to play Elvis Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker. Baz Luhrmann is set to direct the biopic about Presley, which is from a script by “Fifty Shades of Grey” scribe Kelly Marcel.
Wait? What?! Baz Luhrmann? He hasn’t directed a feature-length film since 2013’s “The Great Gatsby.” Before that he had a time-capsule-worthy bomb titled “Australia”? Remember that one? Luhrmann’s claim to fame will always be 2001’s “Moulin Rouge” a frenetic and daring musical that took so many risks, but worked, for the most part. Also, to Gen X-ers at least, 1996’s “Romeo & Juliet” is some kind of classic, maybe the first time Leonardo DiCaprio was noticed by the mainstream before being catapulted to fame the following year with “Titanic.” The last we heard from Luhrmann was when he directed the two seasons from the 2016-2017 Netlfix series “The Get Down,” which was about the beginnings of disco.
According to Variety, Luhrmann wants a newcomer for the role of Presley and he has begun the casting process. The hope is for the as-of-yet-untitled film to start shooting this year.
Mr. Rogers biopic starring Tom Hanks officially titled “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood”
Tom Hanks' Mr. Rogers movie is now officially titled "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood." The film was originally called "You Are My Friend?" but Variety‘s Matt Donnelly is reporting on this new title.
The film will be directed by Marielle Heller ("Diary of a Teenager Girl," "Can You Ever Forgive Me?") with Universal in charge of releasing it on 10.18.19. I do wonder how this will go down as far as the dramatic potential a film about such a benign man could bring. Did Rogers have any actual drama happen in his life? He was, by all accounts, a safe, liberal-minded do-gooder that didn't have controversy surround him in his 40+ years on the air. The film will most likely tackle his fight to push for diversity and inclusivity in his show.
‘Toy Story 4’ Teaser Trailer: New Character Forky is Introduced
Most people will tell you that, as far as conclusions to a trilogy go, you couldn't make a better series-capping entity than "Toy Story 3." The 2010 film had everything that was necessary to end on a high note; emotions, excitement, thrills and the kind of forward-looking nostalgia, I know, a contradiction, that made it wholly unique as far as sequels went. Why make a fourth film? You better have a good idea for it and, well that's at least what I've gathered from recent interviews with Tim Allen and Tom Hanks who revealed just how emotional it was to voice Buzz and Woody for the final time, especially in the final scene.

It seems, at least based in part on past comments from Tim Allen, and now Tom Hanks's recent comments on the The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, that Pixar is going for something very big with the ending of "Toy Story 4."Hanks claims this finale will be "a moment in history" which is an absurd statement, but, hey, I'm willing to take the bait. Here's what he had to say about that ending:

As per press release:
"Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in Untitled Mr. Rogers/Tom Hanks Project, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor."
The film will be directed by Marielle Heller ("Diary of a Teenager Girl," "Can You Ever Forgive Me?").
Spielberg's "The Post," a few reactions.
Spoke to a few people that said it was similar to the way he shot and told "Lincoln," and "Bridge of Spies," meaning the story does the talking, there's a lot of patient, held-back filmmaking, a very slow and dry affair. "Slightly square, old-school Hollywood craftsmanship," somebody told me, adding "It's no Spotlight." In other words, a movie that underplays its strengths. I thought "Lincoln" and "Bridges" were both ok, but that seems to be the direction Spielberg has decided to take on the last 5 or so years with his dramas.
